August 6, 2014 - Traveling along the Columbia River the other night was a pretty surreal experience. There was hardly any traffic along the highway due to the fires burning so close to The Dalles. So many wildfires are burning all over the Pacific Northwest and other parts of the country right now. Land and communities are left devastated in its wake of destruction. After I got through the smoke on the Oregon side I decided to cross to the Washington side at Maryhill and just as I came around the corner overlooking the John Day Dam I was happy to see such a beautiful site as nightfall began. As I continued my journey this week I sow fires burning in several places I once called home. It was a very sad sight to see.
Driving through all that smoke left me very thankful that there are those that dedicate their lives to making sure that others are safe.
